British secondary school on a shortened iGCSE programme

The iGCSE is an internationally regognised certificate awarded for completing secondary education. It is equivalent to the one you would have at the end of year 9 in Latvia. However, with the iGCSE you can continue your studies in Latvia or go to high school abroad.

The minimum level of English required for admission to the programme is B1.

Students graduating from the programme achieve B2+ English proficiency.

Students take interim tests throughout the year and take mock and real exams twice a year. Teachers regularly write detailed comments to parents about their children’s progress and areas for improvement, while the tutors are always in touch with parents to guide and monitor the educational process.

A tutor accompanies students through all stages of the educational process, monitoring progress and helping to develop individualised learning. Tutors work closely with the center’s teachers and psychologists as part of the team of adults supporting your child. This system helps to maintain the motivation and to ensure the well-being of every student at LGEG.

We can offer a combination of individual and group tuition if the student is unable to attend classes on a standard schedule or requires additional tuition. Individual tuition is only available to students on group courses and cannot be the main programme of study at the centre. We also provide online one-to-one tuition, but you cannot study with a London Gates teacher off-site.

Group learning is more effective than individual learning, especially in the case of language learning with children. Language is a means of communication, and we learn it to collaborate with others. In a group setting, students develop an understanding of diverse perspectives, enhance their social skills, and proactively engage in communicating in a foreign language. Conversely, one-on-one settings lack the immersive English language environment essential for effective language learning.

At our center, we ensure that groups consist of a maximum of 12 students, with meticulous consideration given to the group’s composition. Our tutors place students in groups based on the their performance, parental input and teacher recommendations.

We believe that one lesson is not enough to immerse yourself in the educational process. That’s why we have introduced a one-month trial period allowing you to see if our centre is the right place for your child. This is followed by a meeting where we discuss your child’s progress and future learning trajectory.

Yes, most programmes include breaks. They are in line with Latvian public school holidays.

Yes, students are provided with a full meal at lunchtime.

Our team includes native English speakers. But more importantly, our teachers are good at teaching the language, motivating the students and getting them excited about the unusual aspects of different jobs. Our teachers are gifted professionals: linguists, scientists, philosophers, artists, actors and musicians. All our teachers have experience in education and English-medium instruction.

We run regular teacher training courses and seminars and use a professional quality control system to ensure a high quality education.

We have a team of experts who regularly observe recorded lessons. They give feedback and recommendations to the teachers. In order to improve our teachers' skills, we provide in-house training, organise international working groups and exchange experience within London Gates.

Yes, teachers always set creative homework that students enjoy doing. Homework usually takes the same time as class work.

We teach not to be afraid of making mistakes, so we never penalise a child for doing homework wrong or not at all. If a student repeatedly fails to do their homework, the teacher may talk to them after class and emphasise that this is an important part of the educational process.
